Pattern #2

The Cynthia Rowley hat pictured on the Winter ’96/’97 cover should be knit over fewer stitches with an smaller center cable panel than the matching sweater. Pattern #2 on page 66 should therefore be revised as follows: 

HAT

With smaller needles, cast on 72 sts (plus two selvedge stitches which are not counted in following pat and stitch count). Work in k1, p1 rib for 5 rows, increasing 28 sts evenly across last row (100 sts). Change to larger needles. 
Row 1 (RS) *Side cable panel over 10 sts, center cable panel over 15 sts, rep from * 3 more times. Work in est pats until row 20 of center cable panel has been completed.
Row 21 *Side cable panel over – 10 sts as est, p2tog, p4, k4, p5, rep from * 3 more times – 96 sts.
Row 22 *Side cable panel over 10 sts as est, k5, p4, k5, rep from * 3 more times.
Row 23 *Side cable panel over 10 sts as est, p2tog, p3, sl 2 sts to cn and hold in front, k2, k2 from cn, p3, p2tog, rep from * 3 more times – 88 sts.
Row 24 *Side cable panel over 10 sts as est, k4, p 4, k4, rep from * 3 more times.
Row 25 *Side cable panel over 10 sts as est, p4, k 4, p4, rep from * 3 more times.

Row 32 *k2tog, p1, k2tog, k2tog, p1, k2tog, p1, k2tog, k2tog, p1, rep from * 3 times more – 48 sts. Cut yarn, leaving a 12″/30.5cm end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten off. Sew side seam. Make a large pompon and sew to top of hat.

Pattern #9

Neckband Should read: With RS facing, E and Smaller needles, pick up and k 70 (75, 85) sts around neck edge. Work in (k2, p3) rib for >“/2cm. Change to A and cont in rib until piece measures 2“/5cm. Bind off in rib.

K9, turn, p9, turn, sl 6 to cn and hold in front, k3, sl last 3 from cn to left-hand needle and k them, k3 from cn.
(K9, turn, p9, turn) twice, sl 3 to cn and hold in front, sl next 3 to 2nd cn and hold in front, k3, place first cn to the left in front of left-hand needle and in back of 2nd cn, k3 from 2nd cn, k3 from first cn.
